Sylvia was not interested in paid employment, but after settling-in to her new country, wanted to find something worthwhile to do. The coach encouraged Sylvia to join the American Club to begin building a social network, and provided her with several contacts. The coach also suggested that Sylvia consider teaching English to private clients, which seemed very appealing and would utilize Sylvia’s teaching skills.

Together they developed a promotional brochure. After several months of networking, Sylvia began teaching English classes and developed a small private practice of individuals who wanted to improve their English skills. Sylvia found both activities very rewarding. She was able to maintain her professional identity and, by keeping her skills current, ensure her marketability upon repatriation.
