She considers herself a “career expatriate spouse” since her husband’s assignments require them to relocate frequently. Guiomar is constrained with regard to work opportunities in India since she has no work visa, but she is eager to use her skills and re-engage in a meaningful career. Guiomar is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and her career experience includes law, journalism, translation and import/export purchasing. Guiomar and her REA coach identified volunteer opportunities and a useful course in basic Hindi that are helping her to assimilate into her new community.
With her coach’s guidance, Guiomar is also working toward creating a "portable" career with which she can remain engaged as she moves around the world. Together they decided that a career in import/export purchasing would give her flexibility and the opportunity to use her skills in Spanish and Portuguese. Guiomar feels that this is a perfect time for her to obtain her import/export certification and improve her industry qualifications. Her REA coach located an import/export certification course in nearby Mumbai. Guiomar and her coach are also working together to hone Guiomar’s networking skills, create a CV describing Guiomar’s experience and aspirations, and identify professional organizations through which she can acquire business contacts.
