After taking several months to settle in and get acclimated to her new residence, Sarah wanted to find a way to use her nursing education and experience. Since she did not have a work permit, Sarah and her coach explored other options for using her skills. The coach helped her develop a resume that highlighted her qualifications and experience. She also provided the Sarah with interviewing guidelines and research on possible volunteer opportunities that would utilize her training.
After exploring several potential organizations recommended by her coach, Sarah decided to volunteer for Doctors Without Borders. After a few months on the job, the organization was so impressed with her work that, as an accompanying spouse of a professional foreign worker, she became eligible for unrestricted work authorization.
